Hannah and Sammy's Elopement on the Shore of Loch Lomond

Hannah & Sammy at Loch Lomond
Hannah & Sammy · Loch Lomond

Hannah and Sammy eloped on the banks of Loch Lomond, on a wee beach at the edge of the water with not another soul around. No guests, no venue, just a log cabin, a celebrant and the loch.

A wild Scottish elopement is an incredible way to get married, and when Hannah and Sammy got in touch to say this was the plan I was super excited to join them.

You can get married pretty much anywhere in Scotland

The beauty of an elopement is that in Scotland you can get married pretty much anywhere, and outdoor wild weddings are 100% legal. There are still some forms to fill in, but you can get married up a mountain, at a loch, on a beach, you name it. And Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world, so why not take advantage of it?

A slow morning in the log cabin

Hannah and Sammy took a morning walk down to the loch, then spent the rest of the morning relaxing, drinking coffee and listening to music in their amazing log cabin. No hair and makeup schedule, no cars to wait for. I just hung about with them until it was time.

After meeting their celebrant, we all walked down to the beach on the edge of Loch Lomond.

Vows on the beach at Loch Lomond

As the waves lapped the shore, they held hands, Sammy told Hannah that he loved her, and Hannah said that she loved him too.

Together they drank whisky from the quaich and said their vows to each other. There was laughter and there were tears, and at the end of it all they were married.

A beer on the shore instead of champagne

Another advantage of an elopement is that you can skull a beer after your ceremony and nobody is going to judge you for not having fancy champagne. Sammy also threw some shapes on the beach, which I’m fairly sure isn’t on most wedding timelines either.

Cheers to you two.
