Dacia and Caleb's Edinburgh Castle elopement and Old Town wander

Dacia & Caleb at Edinburgh Old Town
Dacia & Caleb · Edinburgh Old Town

Dacia and Caleb travelled all the way from America to get married at Edinburgh Castle, with a small ceremony inside St Margaret’s Chapel and then a whole afternoon wandering the Old Town, Dean Village and the Vennel Steps. An elopement, basically, with the whole city as the venue.

The ceremony in St Margaret’s Chapel and photos around the castle

Their ceremony was inside St Margaret’s Chapel, the tiny chapel at the top of Edinburgh Castle. Afterwards we had a blast taking group photos around the castle grounds.

Then the confetti throw on the Royal Mile, which was a highlight, with some friendly tourists even joining in. That’s the Royal Mile for you. Nobody minds an audience when the audience is cheering.

Coffee, a handfasting and whisky from the quaich in Dean Village

As the day unfolded we explored the streets of Edinburgh. Coffee at The Milkman. A traditional handfasting ceremony. Whisky from the quaich down in Dean Village.

This is the bit I love about an elopement in Edinburgh. There’s no timetable after the ceremony. You walk, you stop when something looks good, and the two of you get to actually spend the day together instead of hosting it.

Dancing on the Vennel Steps under the castle

Dancing underneath the castle on the Vennel Steps was the end of the day, and I couldn’t have picked a better one.

Here’s to more laid back weddings in Edinburgh. Cheers to Dacia and Caleb.
