Róisín and Ross's relaxed Edinburgh City Chambers wedding

Roisin & Ross at Edinburgh City Chambers
Roisin & Ross · Edinburgh City Chambers

Róisín and Ross got married at Edinburgh City Chambers, the council building on the Royal Mile in the middle of the Old Town. A small city wedding: a wander through the Old Town before the ceremony, a confetti throw on the Royal Mile, and a reception at The Edinburgh Grand with their dog. The City Chambers is one of my favourite spots to work because it means we get to explore the city, but Róisín and Ross did things a little differently.

Time together before the wedding, under the castle

Before meeting up with their family and friends, they wanted to have some time together. Just the two of them.

So we met under the castle at the Vennel Steps, one of the best little hidden corners of Edinburgh. From there we wandered through the Old Town, up Victoria Street, dancing in archways and walking the cobbled streets. No pressure and no rush.

Coffee at The Milkman

They even stopped for a coffee at The Milkman, sitting outside, taking it all in. Just them, a couple of coffees, and the city moving around them.

The ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers and confetti on the Royal Mile

With coffee in hand, we headed to the City Chambers, where they met back up with their daughter and the rest of their family and friends. A simple ceremony, then group photos at the City Chambers before heading out onto the Royal Mile for a big confetti throw.

Here’s the thing about doing the portraits first. Disappearing for an hour in the middle of your own wedding to stand in front of a camera is a rubbish deal. Because we’d already done the couple’s photos before the ceremony, Róisín and Ross could just enjoy the rest of their day without worrying about going anywhere.

The dog and the staircase at The Edinburgh Grand

They headed to their reception at The Edinburgh Grand, where they met up with their dog for a few more portraits. We took some final photos on the staircase inside The Grand before wrapping up the day with drinks and toasts.

A small Edinburgh wedding, laid back and exactly how they wanted it. If you’re planning a small city wedding and want the photography to feel just as relaxed, let’s chat.
