Top Tips for Getting the Best Confetti Photos

Buy way more confetti than you think you need, two to four times as much, and put it in big baskets or bowls so guests grab proper handfuls. Then walk slowly, look at your people, and stop for a kiss halfway down.

Top Tips for Getting the Best Confetti Photos

Confetti photos are the absolute best! They’re fun, colourful, and a great way to capture the pure joy of your wedding ceremony with everyone together. Here’s a guide to making sure your confetti toss, and your photos, are as epic as they can be!

Choosing the Right Confetti

The first decision you’ll need to make is what type of confetti to use. The two most popular options are dried flower petals and paper confetti. Both can look stunning, so it really comes down to your personal style and the vibe you want to create, as well as any venue restrictions.

Paper confetti: This option makes for the most dramatic and vibrant confetti photos. Available in a wide range of colours, from natural and muted tones to bright and vibrant hues, paper confetti is thin and light, which means it floats slowly, creating a beautiful cloud of colour around you as you walk through. You can buy dissolvable or biodegradable paper confetti discs, but still check with your venue, as some prefer natural or dried petals.

Dried petals: These are fantastic if you’re looking for something natural and eco-friendly. They tend to fall more quickly than paper confetti, as they’re heavier, so you’ll need more to achieve the same effect. The great thing about dried petals is that they’re real, giving a beautiful, authentic touch to your photos. Plus, your florist can even provide petals that match your bouquet!

Both options are generally biodegradable, which is a big win for eco-conscious couples.

Check Venue Restrictions

Before you get too attached to your confetti plans, check with your venue about any restrictions. Some venues have guidelines on the type or amount of confetti allowed, especially around eco-friendliness or clean-up. It’s better to clarify this in advance to avoid any last-minute surprises.

(Can’t have confetti at your wedding? Don’t worry, there are plenty of other alternatives that are just as good!)

Buy More Than You Think You Need

Here’s the most important tip I can offer for your wedding confetti photos! Always buy way more confetti than you think you’ll need. Seriously, more! Aiming for 2, 3, or even 4 times the amount you imagine will make sure you have enough for those epic photos. It’s much better to have too much than not enough, and trust me, there’s nothing worse than running out of confetti mid-toss or giving your families a tiny handful of a few petals to throw!

And while those little pouches of confetti might look cute, they often aren’t enough and aren’t great for the environment. They can also be an extra hassle to plan and prepare in advance. Instead, consider putting a lot of confetti in a few big baskets, bowls or bags so your guests can grab really big handfuls and make the moment spectacular!

Let’s Nail the Confetti Photos

Finally, the moment of truth, capturing those perfect confetti photos! Here are a few tips to make sure everything goes off without a hitch:

  • Walk slowly: Take your time as you walk down the aisle, giving your photographer plenty of chances to capture the moment.
  • Smile and celebrate: Enjoy it! Look at your loved ones, dance, laugh, and let the joy of the day shine through.
  • Stop for a kiss: A well-timed kiss halfway down makes for a brilliant photo.

So, are you ready to create some epic confetti moments? Buy the big bag. Then buy another one.

Your questions

Should we have paper or dried petal confetti?

Paper gives the most dramatic photos because it’s light and floats down slowly. Dried petals look lovely and natural but fall faster, so you’ll need more. Both are generally biodegradable.

How much confetti do we need?

Two, three or even four times what you imagine. There’s nothing worse than running out mid-toss.

Are wee confetti pouches a good idea?

They look cute, but they often aren’t enough, aren’t great for the environment and are a hassle to prepare. Big baskets, bowls or bags work much better.

Do we need to check confetti with our venue?

Yes, do it early. Some venues have rules on the type or amount, especially around clean-up, and some prefer natural or dried petals.
