Katee and Alastair's Edinburgh Castle Wedding

Katee & Alastair at Edinburgh Castle
Katee & Alastair · Edinburgh Castle

Katee and Alastair got married at Edinburgh Castle, in the Gatehouse Suite at the top of the Royal Mile, with three of their closest friends as the entire guest list. They came up from London, stayed at The Balmoral, and did the whole day in a short dress, a white wedding jacket and Louboutin heels. It doesn’t get much more Edinburgh than that.

Getting ready at The Balmoral and portraits in the lift

The morning was laid-back. Just the two of them with a couple of close friends, getting ready at The Balmoral. Katee wore a short wedding dress, a white wedding jacket and Louboutin heels.

We made the most of the Balmoral’s interiors and grabbed some portraits in the lifts before heading out. Then it was into a vintage car from Edinburgh Classic Cars for the drive up to the castle.

A ceremony for five in the Gatehouse Suite at Edinburgh Castle

Three friends in the room, the two of them at the front, and 900 years of history around them. That was the ceremony.

Afterwards they stepped out onto the Gatehouse Suite balcony. The city stretching out below, the castle towering behind. There’s no other balcony in Edinburgh that gives you both at once, and it’s the bit of the castle I’d send any couple out to straight after the vows.

Through the castle and down the Royal Mile

We wandered through the castle for portraits before heading down to the Royal Mile. Katee and Alastair were completely in the moment, taking it all in, making my job ridiculously easy. I didn’t need to direct anything. I just walked with them.

Their modern, high-fashion style against the ancient stonework of Edinburgh is the whole picture. Short dress, Louboutins, and a thousand years of stone behind them.

Dancing on the old arches and a whisky bar to finish

We hit some of my favourite spots in the Old Town, they danced on the old arches, and we wrapped up the evening in a whisky bar. Because if you’re getting married in Edinburgh, a whisky toast is basically a requirement.

If you’re planning a small Edinburgh Castle wedding and would rather have a day like this than a big production, I’d love to hear from you.
